What is Skype

Skype for Business is a ‘unified communications’ software, allowing collaboration via video calling and instant messaging. This software allows you to effectively and efficiently communicate with multiple people in real time.

Using the same fantastic platform as the Skype system you know and love, but with added business features, letting you easily add up to 250 people to online meetings, providing enterprise-grade security, allowing you to manage employee accounts, and integrating directly with your Office apps.

Skype interface

If your company has over 20 employees and is looking to grow, you should strongly consider Skype for Business as apposed to the free consumer edition of Skype. Additional to the shared features with the consumer version of Skype (IM, voice, video,  screen sharing on all your device) It also has several key benefits:

LARGER CONFERENCES

Up to 250 users on a single conference call.

APP INTEGRATION

With advanced application integration, It has the ability to create conference call invitations which are built into Outlook, making it easier to arrange meetings. This integration can also give real-time availability which is integrated with your calendar, meaning your Outlook calendar will automatically be updated with your Skype for Business, showing colleagues within your growing organisation when you’re free to take calls or Instant Messages if you’re not.

ADDITIONAL CONTROLS

Skype for business has many meeting options and controls that the consumer version of the Skype application does not, allowing you to record your meetings and gives you special meeting controls for presenters and a meeting lobby for attendees.  The consumer version of Skype lacks all of these features.

ADVANCED SECURITY

With Microsoft guaranteed, enterprise-grade security all calls and accounts are made secure with strong encryption and authentication methods. The system also allows designated managers to control which accounts are able to attend meetings and access different features throughout the call.
