NEW SERVER AND NETWORK SETUP CASE STUDY
CLIENT OVERVIEW
The client is a large scale used vehicle dealer based in Cheshire, buying and selling vehicles nationally.
PROJECT INFO
- Date: January, 2018
- Category: Networking, Security, Servers
THE BRIEF
Currently running on a ‘home network’ style setup without correct permissions for users and without any sort of ability to lock down the network or manage its users the customer required the following:
Scaleability – The ability to add users more efficiently over a larger scale.
Automation – The ability to roll out software and group permissions easily.
Security – The ability to lock down shared drive folders along with individual PC processes.
Remote access – The ability to access HQ from any location and still be able to access programs.
THE SOLUTION
A ‘Domain controller’ server was installed to give the ability to fully control users along with their permissions to computers, files and computer functions. This allows our customer to be able to roll out software from one central location, along with being able to control things like backgrounds, passwords and the installation of software on machines all from one central location.
A ‘Remote Desktop’ server was then installed to allow certain groups of users to connect into the network and work from a central server location – allowing access to all of the software required to function as a business.
Managed antivirus solution was then installed on all of the network computers providing a secure firewall against threats and the customer now uses one of our maintenance support packages to manage and provide help with any issues they have.
THE RESULTS
After installing a domain controller and remote desktop server on-site along with changing permission groups to suit relevant requirements, the sales staff can now easily move between desks if required and users both locally and externally now have a fully functional, more secure network setup.
